Zscaler is seeking a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer to own the architecture, development, and maintenance of a high-scale system test automation infrastructure for ZIA Core Datapath, a cloud security platform processing 400+ billion transactions daily. This hybrid role (3 days/week in San Jose) reports to the Sr Manager, Software Engineering, QA within the ZIA Engineering team. You will architect and design scalable test automation infrastructure for cloud-based security products, building repeatable automation suites to validate L4–L7 technologies including cloud firewalls, IPsec/GRE tunneling, load balancers, IPS/IDS systems, and routing/switching. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams during design, development, and maintenance of cloud-based software solutions, and diagnose complex customer issues in production environments. The role requires deep expertise in network protocols, cloud security architectures, and test automation frameworks. Required: 12+ years of experience with strong Python programming skills for test automation frameworks; solid understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP(S), TLS, PKI, DNS, DHCP, VPN, HA, routing, switching, and tunneling (IPsec/GRE); strong background in L3/L4/L7 filtering policies with hands-on exposure to load balancers, IPS/IDS, and routers; proven experience in functional, integration, performance, and scale testing for cloud security/SaaS products; excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills for network infrastructure and firewall issues; foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience leveraging AI-driven solutions. Preferred: Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, traffic generators, performance/load testing tools, fuzzing techniques, and a track record of mentoring engineers and leading large-scale test automation initiatives.
