Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to design and develop complex electro-mechanical solutions for advanced avionics systems. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of mechanical design work—from concept through detailed design, analysis, reviews, system validation, failure analysis, and flight test readiness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design electro-mechanical solutions for avionics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration
- Perform structural, preliminary thermal, and modal analyses to ensure avionics survivability in harsh environments
- Ensure designs meet performance, safety, environmental, and EMI/EMC compliance standards (DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461)
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to define PCB constraints, develop circuit cards, and manage mechanical interfaces
- Drive design through CAD and eCAD tools, harness design software, and advanced manufacturing processes
- Conduct finite element analysis, thermal analysis, and fatigue/lifecycle testing
- Thrive in a fast-paced, agile development environment with evolving priorities
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical equipment design for aerospace, including harness integration and mechanical component design
- Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and system layout
- Familiarity with eCAD software (Altium, Cadence, Allegro) and harness design software (Capital, Zuken)
- Experience working with electrical engineers on PCB constraints and circuit card development
- Knowledge of PCB layout processes and advanced manufacturing methods
- Hands-on experience with finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis, and fatigue/lifecycle testing
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment with shifting priorities
