Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building accessible reading technology.
You will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. Your responsibilities include:
• Design and architect Windows desktop applications with a focus on performance, memory efficiency, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+).
• Define and enforce best practices for Windows development across the codebase, including code architecture, maintainability, and quality standards.
• Drive accessibility initiatives by integrating Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, focus management, and usability for users with disabilities.
• Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and the Windows platform roadmap.
• Own the full feature lifecycle: conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.
• Identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems with robust architectural solutions.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop development with Windows App SDK/WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and managed/native code interop; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; solid software engineering fundamentals (OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading); experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers; and excellent cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred experience includes automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and analytics, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ownership of feature areas long-term.
