As Senior Software Engineer on the Virtual Care Platform, you will be the strategic anchor for production health and patient experience. This is a high-trust, high-visibility role bridging Support and Engineering. You'll own operational engineering responsibilities including triaging critical production issues, diagnosing and fixing bugs in a mature Ruby on Rails codebase, making careful live production data corrections, and protecting patient care delivery.
Key responsibilities include: serving as first-line engineering response for production and support issues during business hours; prioritizing ruthlessly by patient impact; diagnosing and fixing bugs across the large Rails codebase; making safe live production data edits; owning and improving the admin portal so Support and Implementation teams can work independently; building documentation, runbooks, and diagnostic tools; partnering with Support, Implementations, and Engineering to turn recurring incidents into permanent fixes; and tracking patterns to feed back into product improvements.
You'll thrive if you care deeply about the mission (understanding production bugs mean patients can't receive care), run toward urgent fires, have real depth in Ruby on Rails, move quickly from symptom to root cause, take satisfaction in making yourself unnecessary through documentation and tooling, and are self-directed in owning a domain solo.
This role requires 5+ years of professional software engineering experience at senior IC level with production systems ownership, deep hands-on Ruby on Rails expertise, strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills, US-based location (hard requirement for production console access and PHI handling), experience with production SaaS ideally multi-tenant, and strong written communication for cross-functional collaboration.
