We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Transport Software team in our Oxford office. This role is central to developing the control software that powers our trapped-ion quantum computers. You will work closely with physicists to develop ion trap control software, guiding the trajectories of hundreds to thousands of ions in parallel using electromagnetic fields. This work directly contributes to scaling the computational capacity of our quantum systems. Key responsibilities include: - Building the framework that transforms high-level ion transport specifications into voltage waveform data for runtime execution - Supporting the transport waveform team in developing new solvers and physics simulations as framework components - Collaborating with experimental and theoretical scientists to understand requirements for experiments and simulations - Contributing to the design of transport operations used in quantum circuits and their parametrization and calibration - Interfacing with runtime, non-real-time control, FPGA, and electronics teams to shape overall system architecture - Developing high-performance data pipelines required to control ion traps of significant size and complexity - Accelerating the design and analysis of transport waveforms for trapped-ion quantum computers You will need strong programming skills in systems programming languages, experience with performance-sensitive computing, and the ability to work at the intersection of software engineering and quantum physics.
