Commure is building an AI Operating System for healthcare, with a platform spanning ambient AI, intelligent agents, and autonomous RCM processing. The company processes $25B+ in annual claims across 500+ healthcare organizations and serves 500,000+ clinicians.
You will own the end-to-end development and operation of RCM Email Agents—intelligent systems that handle high-volume healthcare revenue cycle workflows. These agents understand operational emails (claim questions, payment inquiries, enrollment, reconciliation, support), gather context, take action across internal systems, and resolve work that would otherwise require significant manual effort.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and operate production AI agents handling high-volume RCM email workflows
- Develop agent harnesses supporting tool use, structured workflows, context management, human escalation, and reliable execution
- Build scalable backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI
- Create React and JavaScript interfaces for operations teams to review and manage agent activity
- Design PostgreSQL schemas and data pipelines supporting workflow state, auditability, analytics, and performance measurement
- Integrate agents with email systems, internal services, healthcare workflows, and third-party platforms
- Build evaluation frameworks measuring agent accuracy, resolution rate, escalation rate, latency, and cost
- Establish monitoring, alerting, reporting, and safeguards for business-critical workflows
- Investigate production failures and improve system reliability
- Work directly with RCM operators and customers to understand workflows and iterate on improvements
- Own projects from problem definition through implementation, deployment, and measurable impact
- Help establish strong engineering culture as the Rio team grows
This is a hands-on role for an experienced product engineer who enjoys moving quickly, working across the stack, and owning production outcomes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Professional experience building and operating production software systems
- Strong proficiency in Python, including API and service development with FastAPI
- Strong full-stack development skills with modern React and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience designing data models and production systems with PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs, AI agents, or agent harnesses (tool calling, orchestration, context management, evaluations, retries, human-in-the-loop)
- Strong understanding of production engineering: testing, observability, alerting, incident response, system reliability
- Experience with containers and cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Ability to move quickly while maintaining high standards for correctness, maintainability, and UX
- Strong product judgment and instinct for simplifying complex operational workflows
- Excellent ownership and communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Builder mindset and excitement about applying AI to high-impact healthcare problems
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience building email agents, support automation, workflow engines, or asynchronous processing systems
- Experience developing evaluation systems for LLM-powered products
- Familiarity with revenue cycle management, healthcare billing, claims, remittance, or practice-management workflows
- Experience building systems requiring strong auditability, security, and data privacy
- Experience operating high-volume distributed systems with queues, background workers, and third-party integrations
