ID.me is a digital identity platform serving 152+ million users across 20 federal agencies, 45 state government agencies, and 70+ healthcare organizations. The company provides NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 certified identity verification and authentication services. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Testing Tools team, you will own the architecture and reliability of automation frameworks and testing infrastructure that enable ID.me's engineering teams to ship quickly and safely. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on building the quality systems that protect a platform handling millions of identity verifications. Key responsibilities include: - Design and build automation frameworks (Playwright, Python, Jest, API automation) providing comprehensive test coverage across ID.me's microservices and distributed systems - Develop end-to-end and integration testing strategies for complex, asynchronous, event-driven systems including workflow orchestration platforms like Temporal - Build and champion testing-in-production practices: canary deployments, progressive rollouts, synthetic monitoring, and automated rollback triggers - Own security-focused test automation covering OAuth 2.0, OIDC, RBAC/ReBAC, secrets management, and tenant isolation - Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to provide fast, reliable feedback - Apply AI tools to accelerate test authoring and code review, modeling AI-first engineering practices - Partner with development teams as a testing strategist, advising on testable code structure and coverage gaps - Debug and root-cause issues across frontend, backend, APIs, and distributed services - Define and track reliability metrics (time to detect, time to remediate) Required qualifications: 8+ years as a software engineer in modern web applications and distributed systems (or 6+ years with Master's degree, or PhD with 3+ years). Strong proficiency in Python/TypeScript/JavaScript. Hands-on experience with Playwright, Jest, and API automation. Deep experience testing REST APIs, microservices, and distributed architectures. Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and authentication/authorization flows. Experience with asynchronous, event-driven systems and workflow orchestration. Security testing expertise including RBAC/ReBAC, secrets management, and tenant isolation. CI/CD integration experience (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD). Familiarity with testing-in-production techniques and strong debugging/root-cause analysis skills. ID.me maintains a full-time, in-office culture with five days per week at their Mountain View, CA office (or other US locations: McLean VA, NYC, Tampa FL).
