Salary: USD 216,000 - 270,000 / annual

Scale is building the Generative AI Data Engine and related products that power the world's most advanced LLMs through human feedback, data generation, model evaluation, and safety alignment. The Platform Engineering team provides foundational infrastructure and systems that enable all of Scale's product teams to operate at scale. In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will drive the design and implementation of Scale's core platform systems, including foundational data platforms, cloud infrastructure, orchestration stacks, and developer tooling. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, collaborate across teams to deliver new features, and proactively identify opportunities to improve engineering practices and processes. Key responsibilities include: - Owning the design and implementation of foundational platforms and systems - Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and deliver features - Identifying and driving improvements to programming practices, processes, and tools - Presenting technical concepts to teams and stakeholders, providing guidance on development and technology decisions You bring 3+ years of full-time backend engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems and public cloud platforms (AWS preferred). You have a proven track record of independently owning successful engineering projects and excel at translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Required technical skills include: Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, orchestration platforms (Temporal, AWS Step Functions), NoSQL databases (MongoDB), relational databases (Postgres), CI/CD tooling (CircleCI), and software engineering best practices. Nice-to-have experience includes data warehouses (Snowflake, Firebolt), data pipeline tools (Dagster, dbt), authentication/authorization systems, scaling at hyper-growth startups, and familiarity with AI technologies.
