Salary: CAD 140,000 - 170,000 / annual
PocketHealth is a patient-centric healthcare platform that enables hospitals and clinics across North America to share medical imaging records digitally with patients, instantly and securely. The company serves over 800 healthcare facilities and 2 million patients, placing patients at the center of their own care journey.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Patient Core team, you will own the backend services and infrastructure that power the patient experience. You'll be responsible for the systems that deliver medical imaging records to patients and enable secure sharing with healthcare providers. This role involves full ownership of architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of patient-facing backend services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining scalable, reliable backend services that handle medical imaging delivery and patient record sharing at scale
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (product, customer support, implementation) to understand requirements and design solutions
- Developing integrations that connect the PocketHealth platform with provider applications
- Writing, testing, and peer-reviewing code (unit, integration, and functional testing)
- Working with microservices architecture to ensure reliability, privacy, and performance
- Partnering across the organization while maintaining strong ownership of your work
The team emphasizes user empathy, product quality, and speed. You'll work on systems that directly impact patient outcomes—enabling patients to receive medical scans in minutes rather than requiring physical trips. The engineering culture embraces AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Codex) as standard practice, with engineers having agency to advocate for tools that enable quality and pace.
Tech stack includes Go, MySQL, TypeScript, and Angular, though experience with similar technologies is acceptable.
This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, with two days per week in the office and flexibility to work remotely the rest of the time.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
- 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with backend-focused or full-stack expertise
- Experience building and maintaining scalable, reliable integrations and customer-facing applications
- Understanding of CI/CD practices
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Some experience with user interfaces that have scaled
- Collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and proven ability to partner across teams while maintaining ownership
