Temporal Technologies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team with a focus on Observability—both internal and customer-facing. This role is central to driving productivity and reliability across Temporal's developer platform and core systems.
You will lead the end-to-end software development lifecycle for observability features: from requirements gathering and design through implementation, deployment, and operational support. You'll formulate feature designs, solicit stakeholder feedback, and drive consensus on technical direction. You'll be responsible for comprehensive testing (unit, integration, performance) and clear documentation of design choices and operational knowledge.
Ownership is key: you'll design and build multi-component distributed systems operating at scale, investigate root causes methodically, and understand performance and reliability tradeoffs. You'll participate in the team's on-call rotation and develop expert-level knowledge of Temporal's architecture and ecosystem.
You'll collaborate across the organization—participating in design reviews, sharing principles for reliable systems, and deeply understanding the needs of both internal developers and external customers to inform product development.
Required skills include demonstrated ability to develop horizontally scalable, resilient, high-performance distributed systems in production. You should have hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale, geographically distributed observability and/or high-throughput data streaming/processing pipelines. Expert proficiency in at least one high-level language (preferably Go), Kubernetes, and SQL are essential. Cloud provider experience (AWS or GCP preferred) and thorough understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and networking round out the technical foundation.
The observability tech stack includes ClickHouse, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Thanos, Kubernetes, and Temporal itself. You'll bring a user-first mindset, strong opinions balanced with pragmatism, self-direction in fast-paced environments, and excellent collaboration and communication skills.
