As a Senior Software Engineer for New Markets, you will design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems powering Alpaca's brokerage platform, which serves over 10 million brokerage accounts trading billions in assets. You will take on regional leadership responsibilities including recruitment initiatives, cross-functional project support, mentoring engineering talent, and serving as operational reliability lead and incident commander during regional business hours. Key responsibilities include designing highly scalable brokerage systems; developing and enhancing middle- and back-office systems using gRPC microservices and React-based UIs; collaborating with core teams to enhance the framework for multi-language, multi-currency, and multi-market support; working with tech leads across regions on synchronous and asynchronous projects; troubleshooting incidents to maintain system integrity; and navigating regulatory requirements for international growth. You may be asked to participate in on-call rotations for engineering projects. You must have strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in Go or similar backend languages with robust system architecture expertise, excellent communication for global collaboration, ability to lead as incident commander, strong computer science fundamentals and software architecture experience, independence in fully remote environments, strategic thinking to translate technical concepts to business strategy, and experience with event-driven design. Nice-to-haves include experience with AI tooling (Cursor, Claude, Codex), startup or high-growth tech company background, knowledge of emerging technologies, domain-driven design experience, and global team collaboration experience.
