Airbnb's Guest & Host Technology team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the native mobile experience across iOS and Android platforms. This role focuses on building end-to-end features that connect guests and hosts globally through fully native implementations in Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android).
You will operate as a true dual-platform native engineer, shipping features across both iOS and Android codebases in parallel. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing medium-to-large complexity features independently, translating product specifications into platform-idiomatic implementations rather than porting UI between platforms, and upholding architecture and performance standards consistently across both platforms.
Beyond individual features, you will think strategically about the health of both native codebases: flagging where implementations are drifting apart, evolving shared client contracts (GraphQL client layer, logging, testing frameworks), and helping less experienced engineers ramp into dual-platform work through pairing and code review. You will participate in technical reviews and architecture discussions where your judgment spans both platforms, and partner closely with design and product teams to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete implementations.
A typical day involves designing and shipping features across both native codebases, partnering with design and product to create platform-appropriate implementations, upholding shared architecture and performance standards, weighing in on shared client contracts, helping other engineers through mentorship, and participating in cross-platform technical discussions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Deep, current, hands-on expertise in both native iOS (Swift, UIKit/SwiftUI) and native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose) — not legacy exposure to one platform and active work on the other
- Track record of independently shipping medium-to-large complexity features on either platform without ramp-up
- Ability to read, debug, and reason about code on the platform where you are less deep
- Solid opinions on mobile architecture backed by experience keeping two independent native codebases coherent at scale
- Comfort owning features end-to-end with ambiguity and identifying when decisions need escalation
- Experience partnering closely with design and product to translate requirements into platform-appropriate implementations
- Pragmatic view on cross-platform tooling; understanding why fully native matters and not seeking to rely on React Native or Flutter
