Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Load Balancing team. You will design, implement, and maintain the software systems that comprise Cloudflare's Load Balancing product, which powers millions of Internet properties globally.
In this role, you will participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle—from system design and documentation through code implementation, automated testing, and production deployment monitoring. You'll collaborate with internal teams including security, network engineering, SRE, and product management to design scalable solutions to complex technical problems. You will review peer work throughout the development lifecycle to ensure high-quality, maintainable code, mentor team members, and work with support teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
You'll debug issues in complex distributed systems and contribute to operational health and improvement. The tech stack includes Go, Rust, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, gRPC, Kafka, and Clickhouse. You'll work on microservices at Cloudflare's massive scale, deployed across 330+ cities worldwide, operating close to end users in a fast-paced but sustainable environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience at a technology company
- Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, C++, or similar systems-level language
- Experience building and operating distributed systems
- Experience with modern Unix/Linux development and runtime environments
- Experience monitoring, alerting, and debugging high-volume production systems
- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL and Clickhouse preferred)
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus and Grafana
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker and Kubernetes)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy, teamwork, and ownership
- Curiosity and critical thinking as foundational traits
