Reporting to the Engineering Manager of Search & Matching, this Senior Software Engineer II will enhance and optimize the search and matching experience within Spring Health's Alma product—helping clients find the right provider and begin their care journey seamlessly. You'll work as part of the Alma Search & Matching pod on high-quality, scalable experiences that connect clients with appropriate care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build scalable, high-quality software across complex problem areas in existing or new initiatives
- Lead technical design sessions for large projects and provide high-value feedback in design forums and architectural reviews
- Use AI to reason about system-level tradeoffs (scalability, performance, reliability) and integrate AI into team workflows—PR templates, debugging playbooks, documentation—while ensuring rigorous quality standards
- Evaluate new AI tools and techniques; share learnings and help establish standards for AI-assisted engineering
- Decompose complex engineering problems into straightforward, well-scoped solutions
- Coordinate cross-group efforts, keeping stakeholders informed of context and progress
- Provide perspective to identify and mitigate risks across projects
- Drive and complete projects end-to-end from conception through deployment and iteration
- Model engineering excellence through instructive code reviews, exemplary designs, and proactive code corpus improvement
- Mentor engineers in technical areas and career growth
- Lead hypercare investigations and high-stakes bug responses with clear stakeholder communication
- Design and build scalable search and matching capabilities for Alma, improving provider discovery and relevance
- Identify appropriate service boundaries and drive architectural decisions about evolving capabilities from the monolithic application
- Architect, build, and evolve backend services and APIs powering Alma's search and matching experience, contributing across the full stack as needed
Success in this role means delivering exemplary architecture solutions (efficient, stable, extensible), actively integrating AI into workflows, solving complicated problems across service domains, driving large complex projects end-to-end with high stakeholder satisfaction, and proactively improving the overall codebase.
This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco with an expectation to be in the office 2–3 days per week at 44 Montgomery Street. Candidates must be based in the San Francisco metro area or able to relocate independently within 90 days of start date. Occasional travel for team on-sites is required.
