Deliveroo's Merchant EMEA Engineering team is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to own complex product and technical problems across the merchant experience. The role spans the entire merchant journey—onboarding, business growth, analytics, recommendations, menu and order management, integrations, and merchant-facing applications—across 37 countries.
You will design, build, and operate production systems across backend services and user-facing applications. Key responsibilities include leading technically complex initiatives, translating ambiguous business problems into scalable solutions, driving technical design and architecture decisions, and owning systems end-to-end from discovery through production operations. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, operations, and engineers across teams, and mentor other engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and technical guidance.
The team values ownership, collaboration, pragmatism, and flexibility. Rather than building foundational platforms, you'll focus on solving real merchant and market needs, including local business requirements and operational challenges. You're expected to work comfortably outside your primary area of expertise when needed.
The tech stack includes Go and Kotlin for backend services, TypeScript and React for frontend applications, with supporting technologies like Kafka, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and gRPC.
You should have strong experience designing and operating production software at scale, owning complex features from problem definition through production, understanding system design and distributed systems, and making architectural trade-offs. An AI-first mindset is important—leveraging modern AI tools alongside solid engineering principles. Strong communication skills and a track record of mentoring others are expected. Experience with merchant-facing tools, analytics systems, grocery/retail/restaurant/logistics technology, or Kafka is a plus.
