LemFi is a Series B fintech company building a financial platform for the Global South, serving immigrants and diaspora communities with remittances, multi-currency accounts, payments, credit, and wealth-building tools. The company processes over $1B in monthly transactions across 30+ countries and operates in 21 markets. You will join the early-stage Credit tribe as a Senior Software Engineer, owning core backend services end-to-end that power lending products for historically underserved populations. This is a ground-floor opportunity to design foundational systems that will scale across millions of users. Key responsibilities: - Design, build, and operate high-reliability backend services for credit products, spanning loan origination, underwriting, repayment, and collections - Make independent architectural decisions on data residency, service boundaries, and state-machine design for loan lifecycles - Own services in production: instrumentation, monitoring, debugging, and maintaining reliability and correctness standards - Collaborate with product and compliance teams to translate credit-domain requirements into clean, testable, maintainable code - Use AI coding tools to accelerate delivery and improve test coverage while maintaining full ownership of code correctness - Contribute to building the engineering culture and raising the bar on how the team builds, including code review and mentorship The role emphasizes autonomy, domain awareness, and the ability to move fast without micromanagement. You'll work primarily in Go with some existing Java services; switching between languages is not a blocker, but deep engineering craft and credit-product instincts are essential. REQUIREMENTS: - Strong backend engineering experience in Go (primary language); Java experience is a plus - Meaningful fintech experience demonstrating understanding of financial systems under load, regulation, and audit - Exposure to credit products (lending, underwriting, repayment, collections) at any level to bring domain instincts - Solid grasp of distributed systems design: event-driven architecture, service boundaries, data consistency, and failure modes - Strong commitment to correctness and data integrity; experience working in environments where mistakes have real consequences - Comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-moving environment where specifications evolve and teams are still being built NICE TO HAVE: - Direct experience building credit decisioning, risk scoring, or loan management systems - Experience in high-growth startups establishing engineering foundations from scratch - Familiarity with regulatory and compliance constraints for consumer credit (e.g., FCA, data protection requirements)
