Salary: USD 143,200 - 243,400 / annual
ServiceNow's Platform Infrastructure Automation team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and deploy large-scale cloud platform automation software. You will partner with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to define requirements and deliver end-to-end solutions that manage ServiceNow instances across tens of data centers and thousands of servers globally.
In this role, you will:
- Design and develop scalable, resilient infrastructure automation software using Java, JavaScript, and ServiceNow platforms
- Build high-quality, clean, reusable code while driving engineering best practices including architecture reviews, code reviews, and design patterns
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve developer productivity, accelerate delivery, and enhance code quality
- Drive engineering excellence through comprehensive test automation strategies (unit, integration, regression, end-to-end)
- Improve platform reliability through chaos engineering, fault injection, failure simulation, and automated validation frameworks
- Contribute to design and implementation of new platform capabilities while modernizing existing systems
- Build and operate highly reliable cloud solutions that scale globally
- Establish observability, performance, and operational excellence practices
- Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence across distributed teams
- Drive continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and software quality metrics
This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week in a ServiceNow office (Kirkland, WA; Santa Clara, CA; or San Diego, CA). The position supports US Regulated Markets and requires US citizenship, naturalized citizenship, or permanent residency (green card). You must pass USFedPASS screening, including background check, criminal/misdemeanor check, and drug test.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software development experience in Java or comparable object-oriented language with Bachelor's degree; OR 3+ years with Master's degree; OR 0+ years with PhD; OR equivalent work experience
- Experience integrating AI into software development workflows, engineering processes, infrastructure operations, or platform automation
- Experience developing scalable, resilient systems and leveraging AI/ML insights
- Ability to lead projects with significant technical complexity and risk across distributed teams
- Strong foundation in distributed systems and proven experience designing large-scale cloud platforms
- Experience building scalable products, frameworks, and infrastructure automation solutions
- Excellent software engineering skills with object-oriented languages (Java, JavaScript, Go, or similar)
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, OOP design principles, design patterns, and performance optimization
- Deep knowledge of database technologies and large-scale data management systems
- Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps methodologies, and modern software delivery practices
- Experience with failure testing, resiliency validation, fault injection, and production readiness practices
- Experience leveraging AI technologies to improve software development, productivity, operational efficiency, or problem-solving
- Experience in Agile development environments
- Prior experience solving infrastructure and systems-level challenges in private, public, or hybrid cloud environments
NICE TO HAVE:
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud automation, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience building or operating large-scale infrastructure automation platforms
- Familiarity with chaos engineering, resilience testing, service observability, and reliability engineering practices
