Roblox is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the App Test team, which builds the test automation platform enabling engineers to deliver reliable, high-quality experiences across the Roblox Universal App. The platform spans test frameworks, execution and orchestration, device-farm infrastructure, debugging tools, dashboards, and supporting infrastructure powering end-to-end testing across mobile, desktop, console, and VR.
In this role, you will design, build, and scale tools and services that power the test automation lifecycle. You'll work on foundational systems enabling engineers to author, select, execute, debug, maintain, and triage tests efficiently, while helping evolve the platform toward an AI-native testing experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and scaling test automation infrastructure: designing, implementing, and evolving frameworks, runners, orchestration services, device-farm integrations, and supporting infrastructure for reliable end-to-end testing across Roblox's supported platforms
- Advancing the AI-native test lifecycle: developing intelligent tooling that improves test authoring, selection, execution, maintenance, and failure triage using AI to reduce manual effort
- Developing test orchestration and intelligence: building systems connecting test planning, selection, execution, and failure analysis for more efficient infrastructure use and faster engineer feedback
- Enabling intelligent test selection: designing capabilities that identify the most relevant tests for code changes and releases, balancing coverage, confidence, execution time, and cost
- Shifting quality earlier: integrating automated quality checks and actionable test feedback into development and CI/CD workflows
- Driving projects end-to-end: taking ownership from problem definition through design, implementation, production deployment, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement
- Collaborating across engineering: partnering with application, platform, QA, infrastructure, and developer productivity teams
You'll solve complex engineering problems across distributed systems, cross-platform automation, developer tooling, and AI orchestration. Your work will help teams identify regressions earlier, improve release confidence, and deliver software faster without compromising quality.
The role is based in San Mateo, CA headquarters with onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence Monday and Friday.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Software engineering experience: designing, building, testing, and operating production software with a track record of solving complex engineering problems in large codebases
- Programming fundamentals: strong programming skills in C++, Python, Go, or another modern programming language, with emphasis on writing maintainable, reliable, and well-tested code
- Ownership and collaboration: ability to take ownership of projects, work effectively across teams, communicate technical decisions clearly, and deliver solutions that improve the experience of engineers using your tools
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with cross-platform test automation frameworks such as Appium, Selenium, or comparable tools, including mobile, desktop, or game testing
- Experience applying LLMs, agents, or other AI techniques to developer tools, including test authoring, intelligent test selection, test maintenance, failure analysis, or automated debugging
- Experience working with large-scale software development workflows and integrating automated quality checks into the development lifecycle
