HeartFlow is a publicly traded medical technology company (HTFL) pioneering AI-driven solutions for coronary artery disease diagnosis and management. The company's flagship product, HeartFlow FFR_CT Analysis, is a non-invasive cardiac test that provides 3D visualization of coronary arteries and blood flow impact. With international regulatory clearance and use in over 750,000 patients worldwide, HeartFlow is building a comprehensive platform to revolutionize precision heart care.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will play a key architectural role in realizing HeartFlow's vision of a unified platform for heart disease management. You will design and build the architecture and data modeling for a next-generation distributed system that seamlessly and securely integrates HeartFlow's cloud services with complex, on-premise hospital Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design and develop HeartFlow's interoperability services, creating the technical bridge between on-premise hospital EHR systems and AWS cloud infrastructure
• Implement data modeling and persistence strategies to structure complex clinical data supporting the unified platform vision
• Build and maintain mission-critical data acquisition and ingestion pipelines, ensuring seamless, scalable, and secure extraction and normalization of patient data from diverse hospital networks
• Develop highly reliable, secure, and low-maintenance APIs leveraging REST alongside healthcare standards (FHIR, HL7) to connect on-premise hospital components to cloud infrastructure
• Ensure data flows and system integrations adhere to FDA and other regulatory body standards and guidance
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to system design discussions, championing engineering excellence and rigorous development processes
You will operate at the senior level, owning the design and delivery of significant components within the interoperability domain while improving how clinical data is processed, modeled, and delivered. The role requires ensuring the platform's foundation scales efficiently while maintaining compliance, security, and quality standards set by the FDA and other regulatory bodies.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• 8+ years of relevant industry experience
• Strong Python development proficiency with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles
• Experience architecting robust microservices and event-driven architectures at scale
• Healthcare interoperability experience: integrating with EHR systems and utilizing healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7)
• Data modeling and architecting scalable persistence layers for complex, high-volume data systems
• Modern cloud ecosystem experience and expertise designing secure RESTful APIs
• Technical leadership experience mentoring engineers and establishing software development best practices
• Expertise in designing testable systems and leading comprehensive testing strategies (Unit, Functional, System-level) for mission-critical applications
• Passion for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), regulatory innovation (FDA, HIPAA), and system resilience in distributed healthcare operations
