Garner Health is transforming the U.S. healthcare system by partnering with employers to redesign how healthcare works. The company applies 550+ proprietary clinical metrics across 80+ specialties to a dataset of 320M+ patients to identify best-performing doctors and steer members to higher-quality care. In five years, Garner has helped 2.5 million people access better care and saved $1B in healthcare costs.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead technical strategy and decision-making on assigned domains within the Engineering team. The role involves building, optimizing, and maintaining software systems that analyze billions of medical records to rank healthcare providers across the country. You will mentor and uplevel early-career engineers, collaborate across disciplines to understand the domain and iterate on projects, and protect user privacy and security through best practices.
The ideal candidate has 4+ years of software engineering experience with a generalist mindset ready to learn new languages, frameworks, and techniques in a fast-paced startup environment. You should have demonstrated ability to build complex systems using AI coding agents (the company uses Claude Code), the ability to learn quickly and mentor others, and familiarity with data security and HIPAA compliance. A strong desire to be part of a high-performing, mission-driven team operating with intense urgency and individual accountability is essential.
Garner's Engineering team tackles incredibly hard technical problems using AWS and Kubernetes, with system load doubling every year. The company is aggressively embracing AI in every facet of operations. Technologies used include Claude Code, Kubernetes, AWS, Airflow, dlt, dbt, Python, TypeScript, React, and Go. The role is headquartered in NYC but available for remote work with occasional travel to HQ. You'll work on problems at the intersection of AI and systemic healthcare reform with real ownership and autonomy alongside exceptional, principles-based people.
