Coco Delivery is a venture-backed Series A robotics startup operating hundreds of sidewalk robots across Los Angeles, delivering to thousands of customers weekly. The company is reimagining last-mile delivery through autonomous technology, serving merchants and consumers with a sustainable, reliable, and frictionless experience.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Delivery Platform team, you will own and drive products from design through development, testing, and production. You'll work closely with product managers to understand user needs (merchants, consumers, internal stakeholders), propose technical solutions, structure and manage projects for junior engineers, and report on impact. This is an in-office role at the Venice, CA headquarters; Coco is office-first and highly collaborative.
The Delivery Platform team is diverse and owns the full stack across several critical areas:
- Consumer and Merchant Products: Build frictionless, efficient, delightful end-to-end delivery experiences. Design robot interactions (loading, tracking, unlocking) around user pain points and moments of delight.
- Order Ingestion: Build and manage software partnerships enabling Coco to receive orders from DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, and custom systems. Work on integrations and test orders from partner restaurants.
- Delivery Management: Build backend services that make automated decisions based on user behavior, supply/demand, regulations, sidewalk conditions, and more.
- Logistics: Partner with Merchant Operations, Consumer Experience, Field Operations, TeleOperations, and Autonomy teams to tackle efficiency and profitability initiatives.
- Internal Tools: Maintain a mobile native app for Field Operations and a web app for remote Pilots managing deliveries.
- Device Infrastructure: Build backend services that communicate with devices and track telemetry (health, battery, location) with low latency and high accuracy.
Tech stack: Golang, Typescript, Postgres, RabbitMQ, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Datadog.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience
- 2+ years of professional software development experience
- Experience designing and leading the implementation of new platform features and services, including deployment in AWS
- 1+ year supporting business-critical services in production
- Experience developing backend services in Go (preferred) or strong fluency in Python, Java, Rust, or C++, with willingness to work primarily in Go
- 1+ year SQL database fundamentals
PREFERRED:
- Experience with message queue or pub/sub frameworks (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Kubernetes experience
- Startup environment experience
