Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Agent Verification team, which builds systems enabling safe software shipping in an AI-native development environment. The role focuses on designing and building reliable backend services and integrations across source control, CI/CD, policy systems, and developer workflows.
Key responsibilities include leading the design and delivery of Coinbase's Unified Merge Gate—a system that determines whether code changes can merge and explains remaining requirements. You will integrate automated review findings, policy and risk assessments, CI results, identity and attestation evidence, and required human judgment into unified merge decisions. The engineer will build reliable backend services and integrations across GitHub, CI, and Coinbase's policy systems, then migrate repositories from fragmented legacy controls to the Unified Merge Gate with safe rollouts, observable decisions, and clear rollback paths.
You will partner with Security, Compliance, Infrastructure, Codeflow, ZTSC, and repository owners to translate control requirements into usable developer workflows. Success is measured by impact on human-review volume, time-to-merge, automated merge coverage, decision quality, and escaped defects.
Required qualifications include 7+ years of backend and distributed-systems experience in Go or comparable language. You must have strong experience designing APIs, durable state, failure recovery, observability, and safe rollout mechanisms. CI/CD, source-control integrations, developer infrastructure, or high-consequence control plane experience is essential. Strong security and authorization judgment is critical—understanding why technically convenient paths may weaken production gates. Evidence of leading cross-team technical projects from design through migration and operational ownership is required. Hands-on AI fluency is expected; candidates should demonstrate practical use and evaluation of AI-assisted engineering workflows.
