The Farmer's Dog is a venture-backed direct-to-consumer pet food company that has delivered over 1 billion meals and raised $150M+ in funding. The company is transforming the $90 billion pet food industry by replacing processed kibble with personalized, freshly-made dog food delivered via subscription.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll work on core systems that power The Farmer's Dog's operations and support the next phase of growth. You'll own architectural decisions that other engineers will build upon for years, partnering closely with engineering pods, Product, Design, Data Analytics, and Lifecycle Communications teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the end-to-end lifecycle of complex systems and features, from design through long-term production operation
- Owning what you ship in production, not just the code merge
- Decomposing ambiguous problems into concrete, shippable work
- Working on systems that support rapid growth, building flexible platforms for diverse customer needs, and creating novel product experiences
- Collaborating through whiteboarding, pair programming, and architecture reviews with high-bar peers
- Shipping peer-reviewed code to production in minutes via CI/CD, using A/B experiments, feature flags, shadow deployments, and progressive rollouts
The engineering culture emphasizes short feedback loops, trust, continuous improvement, and reliable, scalable systems. You'll work cross-functionally in a flat structure oriented around customer problems rather than departments. The company values skepticism, customer obsession, hypothesis-driven work, and execution for impact over best practices or industry benchmarks.
