Shield AI, a venture-backed defense-tech company, is seeking a Senior Site Infrastructure Engineer to design and manage physical IT infrastructure across its global operations. The role encompasses planning and executing infrastructure for offices, labs, manufacturing facilities, and data centers worldwide.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and designing physical IT infrastructure for multiple facility types across offices, labs, manufacturing, and data centers
- Leading site buildouts, office expansions, relocations, data center deployments, and infrastructure moves
- Developing rack layouts, MDF/IDF requirements, equipment placement plans, and bills of materials
- Creating and maintaining rack elevations, physical connectivity diagrams, equipment records, cable documentation, and DCIM data
- Supporting capacity planning for rack space, power, cooling, cabling, and equipment growth
- Administering DCIM/IPAM/CMDB platforms such as Nautobot, NetBox, or Device42
- Establishing physical infrastructure documentation and labeling standards
- Reviewing floor plans, low-voltage drawings, vendor designs, and statements of work
- Coordinating with architects, contractors, colocation providers, carriers, OEMs, and field-service vendors
- Partnering with Network, Systems, and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure infrastructure supports compute, storage, connectivity, wireless, security, and hybrid/cloud requirements
- Identifying capacity constraints and opportunities to improve infrastructure standards
- Providing technical guidance to junior engineers and support teams
Required qualifications include 5+ years in data center, enterprise site, or physical IT infrastructure engineering; strong experience with rack design, structured cabling, and infrastructure documentation; knowledge of data center power systems, UPS/PDU, cooling, and redundancy; experience with DCIM platforms; understanding of enterprise networking; ability to interpret architectural drawings; vendor and colocation provider coordination experience; and willingness to travel for deployments.
Preferred qualifications include experience in geographically distributed enterprises, aerospace/defense/manufacturing environments, Nautobot/NetBox expertise, data center migrations, hybrid infrastructure and AWS/Azure connectivity, vendor familiarity (Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, Dell, APC, Vertiv), infrastructure BOMs and cost estimation, scripting/automation for DCIM, and relevant certifications (BICSI, CDCP, CCNA/CCNP).
