Lunar Energy is seeking a Senior Reliability Engineer to ensure product reliability throughout the lifecycle of its home energy products. The role bridges design and field performance, combining proactive reliability engineering with reactive failure analysis.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineers during hardware design to establish component and system-level reliability targets for power electronics and battery systems. You will provide Design for Reliability (DfR) inputs during new product development, drive Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) to capture performance risks, and develop Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) reliability test plans using physics-of-failure methodology.
The role also involves tracking field reliability performance metrics (part replacements, customer complaints, fault codes), identifying continuous improvement opportunities, and collaborating with finance on warranty program insights. You will drive root-cause failure analysis on both reliability test and field returns, implementing containment and corrective actions.
Ideal candidates hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent, with a proven track record solving complex power electronics reliability failures. Required expertise includes working knowledge of power converter topologies (inverters, buck-boost converters), deep understanding of physics of failure and failure mechanisms for PCBAs and power electronics components (MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors), and familiarity with failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, EDX). Experience with accelerated life testing models, governing equations for PCBAs and battery storage, and reliability statistics is essential.
