NMI is seeking a Senior Product Owner to drive tactical delivery across Billing and Data platform teams within the Engineering organization, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. You will own two interconnected domains: Billing (managing five distinct billing platforms) and Data (owning ingestion and transformation pipelines built on GCP and BigQuery).
As Senior PO, you are the subject matter expert for every feature your team builds. You carry context throughout delivery—writing sharp user stories, validating acceptance criteria, conducting UAT, and ensuring releases meet quality standards. You are the go-to person for your engineering team, product manager, and stakeholders on platform functionality, in-flight work, and roadmap.
Key responsibilities include:
**Product Ownership & Agile Execution:** Lead delivery by managing team backlogs, facilitating Agile ceremonies, and ensuring work is clearly defined and prioritized. Author detailed feature epics and user stories with precise acceptance criteria. Conduct and manage User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including writing and executing SQL queries directly against BigQuery to verify data accuracy and pipeline correctness. Coordinate release planning, write release notes, and manage internal rollout communications. Collaborate with peer Product Owners on cross-team dependencies. Partner with Product Managers to align tactical execution with business direction and with Engineering Managers on resource capacity and technical guidance. Support cross-functional coordination with Program Managers. Define and validate MVPs that incrementally deliver value. Provide product training and enablement for customer-facing teams and stakeholders. Maintain transparency on upcoming work, progress, and timelines.
**Billing Platform Expertise:** Develop and sustain deep knowledge of NMI's five billing platforms—their architectures, business rules, interdependencies, and how they serve different merchant and partner segments. Serve as primary point of contact for billing-related feature questions across engineering, finance, and operations. Partner with finance teams to ensure billing operations are compliant, auditable, and accurately integrated across key systems (payment processors, CRMs, ERP systems). Translate complex billing requirements into executable user stories. Identify and flag platform-level risks, technical debt, and consolidation opportunities.
**Data Platform Expertise:** Develop and sustain deep knowledge of the Data team's ingestion pipelines, transformation layers, and data artifact delivery on GCP and BigQuery. Serve as primary point of contact for data platform questions, pipeline scope, and data artifact requirements. Author and execute SQL queries against BigQuery as core UAT—validating pipeline outputs, confirming transformation accuracy, and ensuring data meets acceptance criteria before releases. Partner with data engineering to define and prioritize data models, views, and dashboards. Advocate for data governance, lineage, and best practices in scalability, usability, and privacy-compliant data handling.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Technical Product Manager with a track record of deep feature ownership in platform, infrastructure, or data-centric environments
- Proven ability to become the go-to SME for products and features you own, including technical depth, not just business context
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data platforms, pipelines, and tools (BigQuery, dbt, Airflow, etc.)
- Ability to write and execute SQL queries against BigQuery as part of UAT validation—confirming pipeline outputs, transformation logic, and data accuracy meet acceptance criteria
- Skilled in Agile development frameworks and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Figma)
- Experience conducting and managing User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure product quality and stakeholder satisfaction
- Effective communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience coordinating software release cycles, QA processes, and documentation
- Passion for understanding end users and translating insights into actionable product enhancements
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience with financial systems, billing platforms, or accounting modules in a SaaS or fintech environment
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred)
- Experience in data governance or privacy-compliant data handling (GDPR, CCPA)
- Technical background (CS degree or equivalent experience)
