Chemify is a deep-tech company pioneering "Chemputation"—a digital chemistry platform combining software, AI, and robotics to automate the design, synthesis, and discovery of new molecules. Spun out of research at a leading university and headquartered in Glasgow, the company is scaling its platform to accelerate chemical discovery for partners in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science.
You will join the Operations & Fulfilment team as Senior Product Owner, leading product strategy and execution for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and related applications. This is the core software that internal scientists and operations teams use to plan, run, and track production and fulfilment work. You'll operate at the intersection of software engineering, chemistry, and operations—translating user needs into a clear, prioritized roadmap and backlog that you and the engineering team shape and deliver together.
This role blends strategic product direction with hands-on ownership, built on close partnership with the engineering team lead. You'll shape the MES roadmap together, bringing the user and operational perspective while leveraging the team's technical insights to decide what to build and when. Day-to-day, you'll own backlog prioritization, work closely with scientists and operations teams to solve novel problems, and act as the primary bridge between engineering and stakeholders across chemistry, operations, and leadership.
Key responsibilities include: owning and prioritizing the MES product backlog; shaping product direction in partnership with engineering leadership; translating operational and scientific needs into clear roadmaps, epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria; facilitating backlog refinement and sprint planning within an Agile/Scrum framework; defining and tracking product success metrics and KPIs; ensuring software is intuitive for scientists and operators while robust for high-throughput automated use; identifying risks and dependencies early; and staying close to end users to ensure real impact on their work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager in a software or technology environment, ideally including complex, technical, or scientific domains
- Strong working knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices with hands-on experience running backlog grooming, sprint planning, and story writing
- Track record of translating complex technical or scientific requirements into clear, actionable product backlogs
- Collaborative approach to product ownership with experience partnering with engineering teams, welcoming technical input, and making trade-offs together
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to work confidently across engineering, science, and leadership audiences
- Strong analytical skills and comfort using data to prioritize and justify product decisions
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with MES, LIMS, ERP, or other operational software used in production or laboratory environments
- Experience with lab automation, robotics, scientific informatics, or deep-tech software platforms
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) qualification or equivalent
- Background or strong interest in chemistry, life sciences, or automation
- Experience in fast-paced, scaling startups or high-growth technology environments
- Degree in computer science, engineering, life sciences, or similar field
