Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. The company controls every component of hardware design, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering.
As Senior Product Manager for Sovereign & Hybrid Deployments, you will drive the productization of Planet's platform for isolated, air-gapped, and hybrid environments. You serve as the critical bridge between high-touch enterprise customer delivery and scalable core engineering, balancing deep customer empathy with product discipline.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct deep-dive discovery with high-security enterprise and government stakeholders to understand operational realities and set clear product priorities
- Define and structure the phased customer journey framework, establishing operational models, readiness criteria, and governance standards for platform installation, joint-operations training, and transition to fully autonomous customer-operated environments
- Translate customer operational and security requirements into clear technical specifications for Core Infrastructure and Engineering teams, synthesizing commonalities across clients to prevent redundant engineering effort
- Define standardized building blocks that allow the core platform to extend safely into varying edge and air-gapped environments without hardcoding custom variants
- Define clear boundaries between core platform and customizable extensions, designing hooks and interfaces so Professional Services and integration partners can build extensions without modifying core code
This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the Berlin, Haarlem, or Ljubljana office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of relevant work experience in Technical Product Management focusing on enterprise platforms, hybrid cloud deployments, or complex infrastructure products
- Ability to sit with enterprise or government clients, listen to complex operational workflows, and identify root problems behind divergent customer terminology
- Track record productizing cloud-native software platforms to deploy into customer-managed infrastructure, enterprise VPCs, or air-gapped data centers
- Conceptual understanding of enterprise hybrid patterns similar to AWS Outposts, Azure Stack, Kubernetes-based enterprise distribution platforms (e.g., Red Hat OpenShift), or infrastructure automation frameworks (e.g., HashiCorp Terraform/Vault)
- Experience setting clear boundaries between core platform roadmap items and custom extensions delivered by Professional Services
- Detail-oriented mindset capable of mapping complex operational transitions, training milestones, and access handoffs
DESIRABLE:
- Prior experience navigating European sovereign cloud frameworks, regional data residency mandates, or EU defense/government compliance standards
