Viam is a robotics engineering platform founded by Eliot Horowitz (co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB) that enables engineers to configure, control, and manage robots intuitively. The company is ~100 people, headquartered in NYC, and building the software infrastructure layer for physical AI and robotics automation. You'll own a core platform area end-to-end: setting roadmap, defining product-engineering decision-making, and partnering with senior leadership on strategy. Key responsibilities include owning your area's roadmap from problem definition through launch and adoption; collaborating on product strategy around developer adoption barriers and bottlenecks; developing perspective on where physical AI and robotics are heading; working with engineering leads on platform architecture decisions (core vs. registry vs. SDK); taking capabilities from 0-1 through real customer deployments; owning developer experience (SDK ergonomics, APIs, docs, onboarding); defining success metrics around developer adoption and second activations; and bringing customer and field engineer insights back into roadmap planning. You must have a software engineering background with production shipping experience, plus 8+ years in product management. You need hands-on experience building developer-facing or infrastructure products (APIs, SDKs, platforms). You should have a track record of taking products from ambiguity to production, including managing migrations and breaking changes. Technical credibility with engineers is essential—you can run SDKs, read code, and hold your own in design reviews. You'll do real market research, form product strategy from direct user engagement, define success metrics, and move quickly with incomplete information. Experience with hardware, IoT, or embedded systems is valuable. Prior robotics experience is not required but enthusiasm for working close to hardware is expected. This is a startup environment where priorities shift and scope changes. You'll wear multiple hats, impact many platform areas, and work closely with senior leadership on direction-setting.
