Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical geospatial data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As Senior Product Manager for Defense & Intelligence (D&I) Mission Solutions, you will own the connective tissue between Planet's shared platform and its Defense & Intelligence solutions, translating defense workflows into platform specifications and ensuring core architectures support high-consequence operational environments. Your primary focus will be technical delivery, partnering closely with Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) teams to build robust extension points and APIs that convert recurring customer-specific patterns into durable, reusable capabilities. You will influence prioritization decisions on which mission requirements warrant investment in the shared GMS/MDA platform versus single-customer solutions. You'll consolidate demand intake across field engineering, sales, and PM counterparts into a prioritized D&I product roadmap, keeping mission requirements visible against company-wide objectives including image-to-insight latency and site onboarding speed. As the team grows, your scope will evolve into end-to-end vertical solutioning, including market packaging and long-term product strategy. You'll drive the evolution of GMS and MDA capabilities into packaged D&I offerings aligned with defense procurement and operational models. Required: 6+ years of technical product management bridging core platform and field teams; understanding of geospatial data platforms, cloud architectures, APIs, and analytics/ML pipelines; ability to separate generalizable platform capabilities from one-off customizations; background in geospatial intelligence, satellite tasking/monitoring, or remote sensing; track record prioritizing backlogs across competing demands; ability to articulate technical trade-offs to engineers and executives. Desirable: experience scaling vertical product layers on shared platform infrastructure; active or prior U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or TS/SCI); operational experience within or supporting the U.S. Defense & Intelligence Community. This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in either San Francisco or Arlington office. The role requires access to export-controlled information; employment is contingent on ability to access applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing.
