Baton is Ryder's in-house product development group focused on emerging technologies in transportation and logistics. With $10B in freight under management, Baton designs and ships software that enables Ryder and 50,000+ customers to plan and execute freight intelligently and cost-effectively. The company operates at startup speed with Fortune 500 reach, having been acquired by Ryder in 2022. You will own the product strategy for Baton's Machine Learning pod, which includes planning and scheduling optimization models, ETA prediction, and Generative AI initiatives. This is a 0→1 role where you'll define and prioritize AI-driven product initiatives, partner closely with ML/infrastructure engineers and data scientists, and drive the transition of pilots and proofs-of-concept into production. Key responsibilities include: - Lead the full product development lifecycle from need-finding through execution - Own product strategy and roadmap prioritization for the ML Pod's portfolio of models and AI initiatives - Own initiatives to improve ETA prediction accuracy and other model metrics - Identify and address technological constraints limiting business growth - Develop proposals and strategies for short-term roadmap and long-term vision - Work with design on prototyping and ideation of new product features across logistics workflows - Partner with ML/infrastructure engineers and data scientists to prioritize backlog against business impact - Define go-to-market and adoption plans for AI capabilities across Ryder's freight and customer-facing platforms - Navigate cross-department relationships to execute organization-wide projects - Shape Baton's technical and product vision for AI/ML opportunities at 1, 5, and 10-year horizons The role is hybrid (Monday and Friday remote; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in-office at Hayes Valley, San Francisco). You'll work in a fast-growing, technically sophisticated environment solving complex supply chain problems. REQUIREMENTS: Minimum qualifications: - Experience owning product strategy and roadmap for technically complex or ML/AI-driven products - Experience building 0→1 products and delivering exceptional user experiences or business outcomes - Proven track record of shipping traditional ML or Generative AI products - Experience taking initiatives through full lifecycle: PoC to production to monitoring/maintenance - Sufficient fluency in ML/AI concepts to prioritize effectively and earn engineering trust (not a hands-on technical PM requirement) - Ability to quickly assess whether AI is needed to solve a problem and determine the right type (mathematical optimization vs. traditional ML vs. generative AI) - Experience working with cross-functional and technical stakeholders - Ability to execute with minimal guidance - Strong data-driven analytical skills Preferred qualifications: - 6+ years of experience overall - 4+ years in product management - Comfort in ambiguous, dynamic environments with understanding of fast-growing startup demands - Experience in B2B SaaS, ideally in freight, logistics, manufacturing, or operationally complex industries - Experience partnering with MLOps or ML infrastructure teams
