Standard Bots is building an accessible robotics platform to bring advanced automation into manufacturing. The company is focused on bringing consumer-grade iteration speed and craftsmanship to industrial hardware—a sector historically slow to innovate.
You will own product discovery, strategy, and delivery for a hardware product area from concept through shipped product. This is a 0-1 role where you define what gets built and why. Your responsibilities include:
- Conduct deep market research to understand customers, competitive gaps, and real opportunities
- Drive iterative testing loops with physical prototypes, learning from real-world field conditions
- Engage directly with customers—visit sites, understand how hardware is actually used in production environments
- Define product specifications and requirements that engineering teams can execute against
- Work hands-on with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers to navigate trade-offs between cost, manufacturability, performance, and schedule
- Collaborate with design and engineering to de-risk assumptions early, before they become expensive to fix
- Develop and communicate a sharp point of view on the market and product direction to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
This role requires someone who is a builder first—someone who treats every prototype as a question to be answered, who has product sense and taste, and who can distinguish between products that merely ship and products that are genuinely good.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in hardware product management, ideally with hands-on experience building robotics products
- Proven experience taking a hardware product from 0-1, from early concept and market validation through to release
- Comfort running iterative test-and-learn cycles with physical prototypes
- Track record of building and shipping products you're proud of, not just managing process
- Critical thinking about customer and market problems; ability to break down ambiguity into structured decisions
- Design and engineering sense; attention to craft and detail
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
NICE TO HAVE:
- Mechanical engineering degree or related discipline with hands-on design or build experience
- Experience running structured tests on physical products (DOE, prototype validation, reliability/environmental testing)
- Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360), DFM/DFA, manufacturing processes (injection molding, sheet metal, CNC), and electromechanical systems
- Prior experience at a robotics, automation, or industrial equipment company
- Startup experience owning a product end-to-end across hardware and software
