Forerunner builds modern software for local governments, federal agencies, and infrastructure operators to run inspections, enforce codes, manage public works, respond to disasters, and meet regulatory obligations. You will own the product strategy and roadmap for the Field Intelligence team, leading how Forerunner helps field teams understand what needs attention, capture trustworthy information, and turn findings into action. This encompasses mobile and offline workflows, AI-guided inspections, geospatial context, photo and voice capture, operational visibility, and connections between field observations and downstream compliance or corrective-action workflows. This is a high-ownership role for a hands-on product builder who enjoys getting close to users, understanding complicated operational environments, and translating that understanding into clear product direction and tangible solutions. You will sketch workflows, build lightweight prototypes, analyze usage data, write detailed product specifications, and work directly with customers to test critical assumptions. Key responsibilities include: owning product strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for Field Intelligence; spending time with inspectors, field crews, program managers, and operational leaders to understand real-world workflows; identifying high-leverage AI opportunities while preserving user control and trust; partnering closely with Engineering and Design from discovery through delivery; defining success metrics (adoption, task completion, data quality, time saved, issue-resolution time, customer outcomes); leading product discovery through interviews, observation, prototypes, pilots, data analysis, and experimentation; balancing immediate customer needs with platform investments; developing thoughtful rollout and change-management plans for regulated environments; equipping Customer Success, Sales, and Marketing with product narrative and launch materials; and communicating priorities, decisions, risks, and learnings across the company. You will work closely with Engineering and Design as a close partner, while collaborating with Customer Success, Sales, and Marketing to ensure adoption and measurable value creation. Forerunner maintains offices in NYC, San Francisco, and Portland, ME. Priority given to candidates available to work in those locations, though the role can be hybrid or fully remote. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of product management experience, including meaningful ownership of a complex product area from discovery through launch and iteration - Excellent product judgment; ability to separate urgent requests from durable needs, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and turn ambiguous problems into focused product bets - Builder's mindset; hands-on use of prototypes, data, workflow models, technical exploration, and other methods to learn quickly and improve product outcomes - Experience shipping AI-powered product experiences to real users; understanding of trustworthiness in production, including evaluation, failure modes, guardrails, and iteration based on real-world behavior - Strong customer instincts and experience learning from users whose work is operational, technical, or domain-specific - Track record of shipping workflow-heavy B2B or enterprise software that produced measurable customer or business outcomes - Ability to work as close partner to Engineering and Design with sufficient technical fluency to reason about data, integrations, AI capabilities, constraints, and system tradeoffs - Clear, concise communication and ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders around priorities, decisions, and outcomes - Comfort operating with autonomy in a growing company, paired with high bar for quality and collaborative, low-ego approach STRONG CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE: - Experience owning a mobile or similarly reliability-critical product where connectivity, synchronization, data integrity, or constrained operating environments materially shaped product decisions - Familiarity with government, construction, utilities, infrastructure, climate, or other regulated industries (domain experience valuable but not prerequisite)
