GitLab is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own the product direction of its usage billing pipeline and monetization platform. This is a technical, systems-oriented product role focused on building backend infrastructure that enables other teams to launch credit-consuming capabilities quickly and correctly across GitLab.com, self-managed, and GitLab Dedicated deployments.
You will own the product direction for metering, aggregation, and rating in GitLab's usage billing pipeline, including integrations with Zuora and CustomersDot that convert usage into invoiced revenue. Key responsibilities include:
- Making onboarding new credit-consuming capabilities a repeatable, standardized process rather than a bespoke project each time
- Partnering with product teams on instrumentation, metering, pricing strategy, and billability across all deployment models
- Prioritizing pipeline scalability, performance, and reliability as consumption grows, balancing platform investments against new capability enablement
- Owning billing defect detection and remediation to ensure errors surface before reaching customer invoices and maintaining audit trail integrity
- Supporting the Monetization Platform and Infrastructure team by framing problems, articulating the value of platform investments, and prioritizing them against operational risk
- Defining and tracking key metrics: billing accuracy, pipeline reliability, cost to serve per capability, and time to monetize
- Staying ahead of product team roadmaps to ensure billing infrastructure doesn't delay launches
You will work in an all-remote, asynchronous environment using written issues, epics, and direction pages to lead cross-functional coordination across engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and go-to-market teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience owning the product direction of consumption- or usage-based billing systems
- Experience with Zuora or comparable billing and revenue platforms, plus understanding of how product and finance systems interact
- Experience with prepaid, commitment, or credit-drawdown pricing models (balances, reservations, overage, expiration) and their billing/revenue edge cases
- Experience launching new products or pricing models while coordinating across engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance, and go-to-market teams
- Ability to bring together teams you don't manage around work their launches depend on
- Experience defining problems for platform or backend teams whose users are other internal teams
- Clear written communication in all-remote, asynchronous environments; proficiency with issues, epics, and direction documentation
- Familiarity with developer tooling, financial audit, revenue recognition, or engineering background is helpful but not required
- Use of AI tools as part of daily work: prototyping, analysis, spec writing, and investigation
