Signal 1 is building an AI Management System for health systems to operate scalable, valuable AI programs. The company was founded by Tomi Poutanen (former Chief AI Officer at TD Bank, co-founder of the Vector Institute and Radical Ventures) and Mara Lederman (professor at University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, lead at Creative Destruction Lab), with early backing from Geoffrey Hinton. The opportunity: Health systems are shifting from buying to building AI, which fundamentally changes the problems an AI management system must solve. It's no longer enough to monitor vendor models—health systems now need infrastructure to build safe and effective agents that deliver measurable impact and ROI. Signal 1 has clear thesis on the problem and solution, with early validation from health systems. You'll own the product strategy from here: pressure-test the plan against customer feedback, sharpen it based on evidence, and make the real calls on what to build and in what order. This role suits someone who has taken a product from hypothesis through MVP to a revenue-generating business and is ready to own that ambiguity and drive that outcome again. Key responsibilities: - Customer obsession: Build deep understanding of customer workflows and pain points; work directly with design partners to uncover and validate opportunities; model empathy and hold the team to that standard. - Landscape expertise: Partner with Engineering and Go-To-Market teams to understand how customers buy and evaluate solutions; run market and competitive analyses to sharpen positioning and strategy. - Shape the market: Build a point of view on where agentic AI in healthcare is headed; establish Signal 1 as a category leader through product decisions, thought leadership, and customer advisory boards. - Own and evolve the roadmap: Navigate ambiguity, translate complex problems into clear priorities and trade-offs, sequence the path forward, rally cross-functional teams around the why, and tie everything to customer value or business outcomes. - Ship-learn-iterate rapidly: Build alongside engineering and design as true partners, sharing ownership of outcomes; keep momentum and ensure the team delivers sprint after sprint. The team: Engineers, machine learning scientists, and product people who are ambitious and passionate. The office is in Toronto; team comes together 2-3 days per week to collaborate, innovate, and build.
