Check is rebuilding payroll infrastructure from the ground up. As the inventors of embedded payroll, Check powers businesses that run payroll, making it easier for employers of every size to launch, grow, and thrive.
You will own the Payouts domain end-to-end—how employees and contractors actually get paid across Check's infrastructure. This is a well-scoped, high-trust area: ACH is live and stable today, and the team is planning significant expansions next year toward same-day pay and new payment methods.
In this role, you will:
- Own execution on Payouts end-to-end, from ACH today toward same-day pay and new payment methods
- Take a well-scoped problem and run with it with strong judgment and minimal oversight
- Sweat the details: catch edge cases before they ship and maintain a high bar for quality with minimal rework
- Exercise good judgment about when to escalate versus handle something yourself
- Partner closely with a dedicated engineering counterpart and cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, partners) to ship reliably
- Connect directly with Check's partners to understand how payouts show up in their workflows and translate insights into product decisions
Check is distributed across the US with offices in New York City and San Francisco. The team gathers annually for a 3-day spring company retreat. Remote work requires the ability to perform all responsibilities without distraction while maintaining quality communication and productivity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Product management experience in technology companies
- Track record of thorough, low-iteration execution on well-scoped work—you ship things that don't come back for rework
- Good judgment about when to escalate versus handle something yourself
- Payments experience is a plus but not required; payroll and tax knowledge is not required and is considered learnable
- Comfort partnering closely with engineering, operations, and external partners to drive projects to completion
- Willingness to attend the annual 3-day company offsite in the spring
