Pliant is a Berlin-based European fintech specializing in B2B payment solutions. The company serves over 4,000 businesses globally with a modular, API-first platform that helps companies streamline spending, improve cash flow, and integrate payments into financial workflows. As a licensed e-money institution, Pliant issues credit cards in 11 currencies across 30+ countries.
You will join as Senior Product Designer, Design Systems, blending hands-on product design with deep design-system ownership. This is a dual-track role: you'll spend time shipping product features embedded within a product team while owning the evolution of Pliant's design system. You'll maintain and improve the system while leading its evolution for AI-assisted workflows.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the design system domain: be the accountable owner of components, tokens, patterns, and documentation, ensuring consistency and quality as the team and product scale
- Design product features day-to-day: embed in a product team and design end-to-end features across web platform, mobile app, internal tools, and dashboards
- Prepare the design system for AI: restructure tokens, components, and documentation so AI agents can read and use them, enabling prototypes that map one-to-one to code
- Partner closely with engineering: keep the design system and codebase in sync, aligning naming, tokens, and component APIs
- Raise consistency standards: define and champion standards, review component usage, and help other designers move faster
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders from discovery through delivery
- Wear multiple hats: support different design needs and drive company success across projects
You bring 5+ years of product design, UX/UI, or digital design experience (agency or in-house), with at least 1 year in a senior or lead role. You have deep, demonstrable expertise in design systems—you've built, scaled, and governed a system, not just consumed one. You command component architecture, design tokens, theming/modes, and documentation with a systematic approach to naming and structure. Advanced Figma skills (variables, modes, component properties, auto-layout) are essential. You understand how design systems map to front-end code and are comfortable collaborating closely with engineers. Curiosity about AI/agent-assisted design workflows is a strong plus. You can design end-to-end product experiences across web, mobile, internal tools, and dashboards. You have excellent craft in interaction and visual design, a proactive and highly organized way of working, and strong communication skills. Experience in fintech or B2B SaaS is nice-to-have; curiosity and adaptability matter more.
Pliant values flexibility: while Berlin is the main location, you can work remotely or hybrid from hubs in Berlin, London, Vienna, or Helsinki. You should ideally be able to join team meetings throughout the year and be within +/- 3 hours of GMT timezone.
