Apron is a fintech company founded in 2021 that digitizes and simplifies the entire payments process for small businesses—capturing invoices, issuing expense cards, paying and getting paid, all in one platform. The company has ~100 employees across the UK, Germany, Spain and beyond, backed by Index Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Zinal Growth, and Tony Fadell, with $50m raised.
This Senior Product Designer role owns end-to-end design of Apron's core payments product, from problem framing through shipped, polished experiences. Payments is the highest-stakes design problem in the company: it touches nearly every other part of the system, carries the most dependencies, and directly impacts revenue. You will design interfaces for genuinely complex financial workflows that are both functional and delightful, develop a point of view on how the product should work as a system, and proactively shape product direction alongside PMs and engineers—not just execute on request.
Key responsibilities include: end-to-end design of core payments experiences; designing complex financial workflows; systems thinking across multiple touchpoints; owning the design system as it applies to payments; raising the bar across the design team through feedback and critique; and close partnership with the UX researcher to turn user insight into decisions.
You'll need deep product design experience in complex domains where understanding the 'why' behind decisions matters as much as the decision itself. You should be comfortable with ambiguous, high-abstraction problems, have evidence of influencing product direction (not just shipping what was asked), and be a natural collaborator who co-leads with PMs and engineers. Speed of execution alongside strategic thinking is essential.
The company offers highly competitive salary + stock options, pension plan, health insurance (including optical and dental), life assurance, enhanced parental leave, weekly Deliveroo allowance, 29 days holidays, flexible working hours, hybrid work 3 days/week in London (Liverpool Street), cycle to work scheme, and EV scheme. Hiring process: recruiter interview → home task + product team discussion (real problem, time-boxed, graded on reasoning) → team interview → founder chat. Target timeline: offer within 2-3 weeks.
