Vitalize Care is building an AI operating system for how health systems manage labor, staffing, and capacity—replacing spreadsheets and guesswork with intelligent automation. The company has raised $31M+ from top healthcare and technology investors and is trusted by leading health systems across the country. You'll be the third product designer at Vitalize, joining at a stage with significant ownership and the opportunity to shape the product direction. You'll lead design for complex product areas from early discovery through launch, working closely with product managers and engineers to turn ambiguous operational problems into clear, intuitive experiences. Key responsibilities: - Own product design end-to-end: discovery, problem definition, solution exploration, prototyping, and shipping high-quality experiences - Design complex, workflow-heavy product experiences for data-dense operational tools used by central staffing teams, unit managers, and frontline clinicians - Work directly with customers: visit hospitals, observe real workflows, conduct research, and translate insights into product decisions - Apply strong product thinking: question underlying workflows, identify opportunities beyond immediate requests, and connect design decisions to customer and business outcomes - Design thoughtful AI-powered experiences: determine where AI meaningfully improves workflows and how recommendations, reasoning, and actions should appear in the product - Contribute to and evolve the design system: create reusable components and patterns, improve consistency, and partner with engineering on production translation - Raise quality across the team: participate in critique, share thoughtful feedback, and contribute to team practices The design team is grounded in deep understanding of healthcare operations. You'll spend time in hospitals, learn how work happens from frontline to C-suite, and use those insights to design products that make complex operational decisions easier. The team values craft but believes great design starts with getting the workflow right, not just the interface. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; flexible PTO; unlimited travel budget for customer site visits; twice-yearly company off-sites; free in-office meals; $5,000 relocation bonus (eligible employees); desk setup reimbursement; commuter benefits; monthly gym/wellness stipend; and office in Jackson Square, San Francisco. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of product design experience, ideally designing complex, workflow-heavy B2B SaaS products - Portfolio demonstrating meaningful ownership from problem definition through shipped product - Strong product instincts and design craft: ability to look beyond immediate UI, question underlying workflows, and turn complicated problems into intuitive experiences - Customer- and outcomes-oriented mindset: comfortable observing operational workflows firsthand, translating customer insights into product decisions, and connecting work to measurable outcomes - Strong cross-functional collaboration skills: ability to form and articulate a point of view, incorporate evidence and feedback, and work through disagreement effectively with product managers and engineers - Experience contributing to design systems: understanding of reusable components and patterns, and commitment to building consistency and quality as the product scales - AI fluency: experience designing AI-powered experiences or strong understanding of how AI changes product interactions, with thoughtful perspective on where AI should and shouldn't be part of a workflow
