Polar is hiring a Senior Product Designer to shape the merchant experience for billing and finance. You'll be the second designer on the team, working alongside the founding designer with real scope from day one and no design bureaucracy.
You'll own product surfaces end-to-end, taking full responsibility for entire areas from problem framing through shipped pixels. The role requires designing for a complex, technical domain—turning billing concepts, usage-based pricing, per-customer margin, and subscription state into interfaces merchants trust. You'll need to get deep enough in the domain to have opinions about the systems themselves, not just their presentation.
Key responsibilities include: owning product surfaces end-to-end with direct accountability for production feel; designing for complex, technical domains like billing and usage-based pricing; contributing to and evolving the design system (tokens, primitives, billing-domain components); and raising the craft bar across the company by setting standards for quality and pushing on details.
In your first 30 days, you'll integrate Polar into a real project, set up a product, take a payment, read the docs, and learn the design system and codebase well enough to ship a small change independently. Days 31–60, you'll take end-to-end ownership of a significant product area and ship meaningful improvements. Days 61–90, you'll operate with high autonomy, bring a point of view on product direction, and start shaping how design works at Polar as the team grows.
You should have exceptional craft in fundamentals (typography, layout, hierarchy, motion), systems thinking for components and patterns, and comfort reading React and TypeScript. You need 8+ years designing digital products with significant time on developer-facing, fintech, or infrastructure products. A portfolio showing depth on complex product surfaces is essential. Demonstrated ownership of a design system or substantial contributions to one is required. Bonuses include shipped front-end code to production and experience with payments, billing, or subscription infrastructure.
