Planet designs, builds, and operates the world's largest constellation of imaging satellites, delivering unprecedented Earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As a Senior Product Designer, you will drive the end-to-end design process for CivGov and Commercial Solutions, translating complex geospatial satellite data into intuitive, actionable user experiences.
You will own product design leadership from discovery through high-fidelity execution, conducting user research and prototype testing to validate use cases for government compliance officers, commercial analysts, and other domain experts. Your work will establish reusable UX patterns and interaction components that scale across Planet's platform, bridging the gap between sophisticated technical capabilities and clear customer value.
Key responsibilities include leading user discovery and jobs-to-be-done analysis, architecting interfaces for data-heavy applications, defining user-centric success criteria, and collaborating cross-functionally with Product and Engineering to align on ambiguous problem spaces. You will actively contribute to building Planet's design culture and elevating design standards across the organization.
This is a hybrid role based in Berlin or Haarlem, requiring 3 days per week in office. You'll work with a globally distributed team spanning San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and the Netherlands.
Required: 6+ years designing complex SaaS or B2B products from ideation to launch; Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent; strong portfolio demonstrating process and impact; expertise in user research, usability testing, UX/UI, interaction design, prototyping, accessibility, and Figma; experience with data-heavy applications.
Preferred: GIS, geospatial data, or remote sensing experience; AI-native design mindset; track record in growth-focused, collaborative environments; ability to own and communicate solutions to complex, systemic problems.
