Outsmart is an early-stage, venture-backed edtech startup reimagining higher education for the AI era. Backed by $38M from top-tier VCs including Khosla Ventures, Forerunner, and DST Global, the company is led by former Duolingo executives and Emmy Award winners, and is already generating 1–5 million weekly organic social views.
As Senior Product Designer, you'll lead design for major product areas of the Outsmart student experience, working closely with Product, Engineering, and leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend most of your time designing, prototyping, and shipping, while also mentoring other designers, raising quality standards, and evolving team processes.
Key responsibilities include: owning end-to-end design for major product areas; turning ambiguous problems into clear strategies, flows, and polished experiences; partnering with Product and Engineering from exploration through launch; mentoring and managing designers; leading design critiques and feedback culture; establishing processes that enable rapid iteration without sacrificing quality; using research, data, and prototyping to inform decisions; evolving the design system and product language; and helping grow the design team as the company scales.
You bring 6+ years of product design experience with significant consumer-facing digital product work, proven experience managing and developing product designers, and a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking and interaction design. You're comfortable with ambiguity, move quickly, and have shipped products at meaningful scale. You're deeply hands-on with Figma and prototyping, collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders, and actively use AI tools to accelerate design exploration. You have excellent communication skills, high standards for craft paired with shipping judgment, and a low-ego approach to leadership and feedback. Bonus experience includes consumer education, social, or gaming products.
