About the Role
You will own a product area across multiple releases, serving as the design authority for an area that other designers depend on. Your scope includes components, prototypes the team uses for scoping, or tooling that accelerates the entire team. Design here is not about drawing—it's about making the moments that shape financial futures land. You will handle ambiguous problems that the team cannot settle on its own, and you are expected to speak up when evidence points against product or engineering direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a product area across releases, carrying a piece of the system other designers depend on (components, prototypes, or tooling)
- Build working prototypes with real components and data to test ideas and align product and engineering before commitment
- Choose research worth running and own the synthesis and decision that follows; say no to research that won't change outcomes
- Set measures before the build and stay with them; change direction early if metrics don't move rather than defending the design
- Define quality standards in your area (error states, empty states, WCAG 2.0 AA compliance, consistent patterns) so others can maintain them without you
- Take contested recommendations to senior stakeholders and secure decisions; bring the options you killed and what would change your mind
- Grow the people around you through review, mentoring, and the work itself; your area should be a place designers improve
- Ship something real every quarter: prototypes, design system contributions, or code; use AI by default and own the outcomes
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record owning a product area across multiple releases, with a portfolio showing your judgment: how you framed problems, what you ruled out, and what you got wrong
- Depth across UX and visual design, plus one area where you are genuinely the best in the room
- Experience building with AI and shipping things others rely on, not just your own work
- Comfortable building: you prototype in code or with AI tools, understand how components and data shape design, and know when a design is expensive
- Ability to work confidently in complexity: dense data, permissions, regulated environments, information-heavy screens
- Strong communication skills; you disagree well in public and change your mind when evidence turns
Bonus Experience
- Experience in fintech, wealth management, or another regulated domain
- Taking something from zero to one, not only iterating on what exists
- Having built a design system or meaningful part of one that outlasted you
- Background in front-end development or experience as a design engineer
