Crux is a capital platform modernizing how clean energy and critical infrastructure projects raise and deploy capital. The company combines deep expertise in energy finance, tax structuring, and technology to serve sponsors, developers, and capital partners across the renewable energy ecosystem. As Senior Principal of Investments (Tax & Preferred Equity), you will lead the execution of complex tax equity and preferred equity transactions from term sheet through close. You will serve as the technical authority on partnership structures, tax basis issues, and capital account mechanics—resolving difficult deal-specific questions before they escalate. Your responsibilities include identifying and structuring transaction risk, preparing investment committee presentations, leading negotiations with sponsors and capital partners, and reviewing complex partnership and hybrid models in coordination with Legal, Tax, and Risk teams. You will mentor junior colleagues, help build institutional infrastructure for capital-partner underwriting, and champion AI-enabled workflows across the deal lifecycle. This is a high-ownership role where you will shape how Crux presents itself to institutional capital partners and lead the most complex transactions on the team. You bring 10–12+ years in renewable energy, structured finance, or infrastructure investing, with direct experience leading tax equity transactions including hybrids. You have command of partnership structures, DROs, basis allocations, safe harbor rules, and recapture mechanics. You are comfortable across core technologies (solar, wind, storage) and emerging categories, with strong risk judgment, modeling skills, and the ability to lead and negotiate transaction documents. Prior experience at a bank (project finance, structured products, leveraged finance) or as a developer/sponsor is a strong plus. You are willing to travel up to 25% and to obtain FINRA licenses (SIE, Series 79, 63) under Crux's sponsorship if needed. Crux has raised $77M from top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, and strategic partners like Pattern Energy and Clearway Energy. The company operates a remote-first model with optional offices in DC, NYC, and SF, and has closed 120+ transactions in the past two years, facilitating billions in capital deployment.
