Sprig is an AI-powered customer survey platform used by leading companies like Microsoft, DoorDash, Notion, Figma, Coinbase, and TripAdvisor. The platform leverages AI agents to design studies, adapt surveys in real time, and deliver actionable insights in hours instead of weeks.
This Senior Platform Engineer role owns the build-and-test loop that serves as the safety gate for the entire organization. You will be responsible for making changes trustworthy and fast—whether written by humans or AI agents. The Platform team runs systems handling over a billion visitors monthly with traffic peaking near 150k requests per second.
Key responsibilities include:
- Modernize the JavaScript and TypeScript build by migrating from current Node Bazel rules to maintained successors, completing the JS toolchain move to Bazel modules, and replacing accumulated workarounds with proper module linking and incremental compilation.
- Cut CI time and cost measurably by establishing p50 and p95 PR build and test times as tracked metrics, then driving them down through better cache hit rates, incremental builds, and balanced test parallelism. Own the remote cache fleet's sizing, eviction behavior, and cost.
- Make the build observable by shipping telemetry for per-target timing, cache hit rate, flake rate, and cost, enabling data-driven build decisions.
- Elevate test automation to a first-class developer experience across unit, integration, browser end-to-end, and visual layers. Ensure local commands match CI, make it trivial to run single files or affected graphs, and detect/quarantine flakes automatically.
- Move from shared environments to ephemeral ones by replacing long-lived, contended environments with short-lived isolated stacks that humans or cloud agents can create per branch or task.
- Build the agent-ready development platform by delivering hermetic, sandboxed, reproducible build and test environments that agents can invoke safely and in parallel, plus automated review and presubmit signals.
You bring 6+ years owning a monorepo build system at scale (Bazel strongly preferred; Buck2, Pants, Nx, or Turborepo considered). You have deep CI/CD platform experience with incremental builds, test sharding, self-hosted runner fleets, and merge queues. You're fluent in production bundler pipelines (webpack, Vite, esbuild, Turbopack), TypeScript/Node, and have proven ownership of flake detection, balanced sharding, and merge signals with measurable results in build times and CI spend.
