Lightning AI, founded in 2019 and backed by Coatue, Index Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, and Firstminute, is the company behind PyTorch Lightning. The company builds an end-to-end platform for developing, training, and deploying AI systems, combining developer-first software with cost-efficient, large-scale compute through a merger with Voltage Park. Lightning AI operates globally with offices in New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, and London, serving solo researchers, startups, and large enterprises. The Senior People Partner, Tech role is a strategic, hands-on position embedded with engineering and technical leadership. This is not a purely advisory seat—you will own high-stakes situations end-to-end while building systems and muscle that enable technical leaders to make great people decisions independently. Key responsibilities include: partnering directly with technical leaders on org design, team structure, leveling, promotions, and compensation decisions; owning complex employee relations and performance situations including coaching leaders through performance management, role transitions, and exits; leveling up manager capability across the technical org through sharper feedback and stronger talent decisions; partnering with Talent to raise the bar on hiring quality for technical roles through role design, leveling frameworks, and evaluation practices; and spotting friction and risk in people processes early, building pragmatic, scalable fixes alongside Legal, Total Rewards, and Finance. Required qualifications: 8+ years in People Partnering or HRBP roles with deep experience partnering directly with engineering or technical organizations; a track record of influencing senior technical leaders on org design, performance, and talent decisions; sharp employee relations judgment and demonstrated ability to own and resolve high-stakes, complex situations; experience driving compensation, promotion, and leveling decisions in technical environments; and experience supporting globally distributed technical teams. The company values builders who move fast, communicate openly, take ownership, and continuously improve themselves, their teams, and the organization. You'll join a small, high-leverage People team where your judgment shapes how a fast-scaling, distributed engineering and Neocloud organization operates.
