Oyster is a global employment platform that enables companies to hire, pay, and support talent anywhere in the world. As Senior Payroll Specialist for the Netherlands, you will own the complete Dutch payroll function end-to-end, serving as the in-house expert for one of Oyster's most important markets. You will run the full native Dutch payroll cycle independently, managing master data for new hires, terminations, salary changes, variable pay, benefits, absences, and garnishments. Your responsibilities include executing monthly Loonagifte (payroll tax) and annual Jaaropgave (annual statement) filings with the Belastingdienst, managing government accesses (Belastingdienst, UWV), and ensuring 100% accuracy and compliance. You will configure and maintain the in-house payroll system using AFAS, Nmbrs by Visma, and/or Loket.nl, test legislative updates before deployment, and troubleshoot system issues. You'll conduct rigorous pre- and post-payroll validations each cycle, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to prevent errors reaching employees, customers, or Finance. As subject matter expert, you will advise the business on Dutch payroll tax (Loonheffing), social insurance (Sociale verzekeringen), labor law (arbeidsrecht), 30% ruling applications, and collective labor agreement (CAO) interpretation. You'll own payroll journals, GL mappings, reconciliations with Finance, and full data integrity. You'll handle complex client escalations, combining technical expertise with customer-first problem-solving. You will prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports including EU Pay Transparency Directive compliance, AVG/GDPR compliance documentation, WKR assessments, and works council (Ondernemingsraad) reporting. You'll support internal and external audits with structured data and documentation. Finally, you'll mentor junior specialists, build and improve processes, maintain playbooks and SOPs, and ensure payroll knowledge stays documented and shared across the team.
