Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, and manufacturing to deploy intelligent systems at scale.
As Senior Payroll Director, you will own global payroll end-to-end for the Atoms Group across approximately 30 countries and several hundred legal entities. Your responsibilities include:
• Lead the payroll function, team, systems, and vendor relationships across all geographies
• Own the Workday and ADP operating model, with Workday as the system of record for data aggregation, HR workflows, and approvals, and ADP handling processing, payment execution, and tax remittance
• Drive payroll transformation: consolidate fragmented international processes, improve accuracy, and rebuild infrastructure designed for a much smaller organization
• Develop vendor strategy by evaluating, selecting, and governing dedicated international payroll partners across EMEA, APAC, and LATAM
• Manage a layered workforce including corporate, executive, and a large fast-growing hourly population while maintaining accuracy and service quality
• Build and develop a lean, high-performing payroll organization that sets the standard for excellence
You bring 15+ years in payroll with at least 10 years leading people across multiple geographies or offshore centers of excellence. You have run complex multi-country payroll across numerous legal entities spanning multiple continents with deep knowledge of international compliance, tax, and statutory requirements across EMEA, APAC, and LATAM. You have hands-on Workday experience including implementation or re-implementation, understand the Workday-ADP operating model, and have evaluated or managed dedicated international payroll vendors such as Safeguard Global, Papaya Global, or CloudPay. You have owned end-to-end payroll transformation projects, scaled within high-growth companies that stayed lean on G&A, and thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial, sometimes ambiguous environments. Experience at a payroll service provider or payroll software company is a plus.
This role is based in San Francisco or Los Angeles with five-day-per-week onsite work required. Base salary range: $223,000–$262,000 annually, plus equity awards and annual performance-based bonus eligibility.
