OpenAI's User Safety & Risk Operations (USRO) team is seeking a Senior Operations Analyst to own complex, ambiguous safety and risk problems and develop them into scalable operational solutions. This is a senior individual-contributor role for a versatile operator comfortable moving between investigation, analysis, workflow design, hands-on execution, and cross-functional leadership.
You will take ownership of high-priority safety and risk problems: define the problem, gather evidence, choose a practical path, drive execution, and close the loop. The work spans emerging-risk incubation, cloud deployment partnerships, product launches, device safety, and other new operational areas. You'll analyze structured and unstructured data—user reports, case narratives, conversations, escalations, and operational metrics—to identify patterns and high-leverage interventions.
Key responsibilities include building and testing lightweight workflows, tools, automations, and decision aids that improve speed, quality, and consistency; turning one-off insights into scalable operating mechanisms; leading sensitive investigations and incident response; working with cross-functional and external partners to resolve operational gaps; measuring outcomes and adjusting quickly; and coaching junior operators to build judgment and independence.
You should have 8+ years in trust and safety operations, investigations, incident response, product operations, technical program management, or similar high-judgment, data-heavy operational fields. You're a scrappy generalist who enters unfamiliar problems, learns quickly, and delivers with limited structure. You're highly data savvy, technically fluent with AI tools and dashboards, operate independently, think in systems, exercise strong judgment in sensitive situations, and communicate clearly across teams without formal authority.
Nice-to-have skills include experience in fraud, product safety, or adversarial risk domains; moving immature workflows into stable operations; supporting cloud platforms or deployment partnerships; SQL, scripting, no-code tools, or AI-assisted development; and vendor operations or distributed teams.
