Xero is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer to help shape and build the Xero Accounting App, a flagship mobile experience used by millions of small businesses worldwide. This is a hands-on senior role with meaningful ownership where you'll take complex mobile features from idea to production, contributing to technical design, navigating ambiguity, and making pragmatic engineering decisions with real-world impact.
You'll work across the React Native and broader mobile ecosystem, partnering closely with Product, Design, backend, and platform teams to solve challenging problems at scale. Key responsibilities include shipping meaningful customer value by building and evolving React Native experiences across critical workflows like banking, invoicing, payments, notifications, tasks, and file management. You'll own complex features end-to-end, contribute to technical design, and shape APIs and data flows that enable great customer experiences.
The role involves evolving the React Native architecture to build a modern, scalable mobile platform that enables teams to ship faster without compromising quality. You'll contribute to architectural decisions, simplify complexity, and establish patterns that make React Native development more effective across the codebase. Operating at scale is critical—you'll take responsibility for software in production, ensuring availability, performance, accuracy, security, and scalability. You'll automate manual processes, identify recurring failure patterns, and participate in incident response and post-mortems.
Beyond individual contribution, you'll raise the engineering bar by mentoring engineers, providing technical guidance, conducting thoughtful code reviews, and demonstrating strong engineering judgment. You'll actively use AI-assisted development, automation, and modern engineering tooling to improve effectiveness and help teams deliver value faster. Through Xero's partnership with Anthropic, you'll help reimagine how software is built by embedding AI into everyday engineering workflows.
The team is distributed across Melbourne and Sydney with regular collaboration and dedicated boost days. This hybrid role offers flexibility in how you work while maintaining strong team connection.
